An FIU love story inspires engagement

Greg Todd ’00 had no idea how significant visits to his cousin’s dorm at Panther Hall would become.

It was during those trips back in 1997 that he first noticed Kerry, the Hall’s front desk assistant. When Greg first saw her, he started making visits to the dorms more frequently, and not one month later, they started dating.

Greg Todd2The rest is history.

Greg knew two months into their relationship that he would marry Kerry one day, and from that moment he set out to collect and save every receipt from moments they would share together. On March 31, 2000, Greg took his FIU sweetheart out to dinner and later returned to just outside of where it all started: Panther Hall.

It was in front of that building, with a ring and an album full of memories, that he asked the love of his life to marry him: “I have absolutely no idea where life is going to take me, but I wanted to know if you wanted to do life with me?”

Fast forward 14 years, Greg and Kerry are happily married and have four beautiful children.

Recently, Greg, Kerry, their children and Greg’s parents returned to campus and were able to visit Panther Hall. However, visiting where Greg and Kerry first fell in love was not the sole purpose of his trip.

Greg knows that without FIU, his life might have turned out completely different – both professionally and personally. As a result, Greg values the idea of giving back to an alma mater that gave him so much.

“Honestly, without the education that I received from FIU, as well as the most precious gift that I’ve ever been given, which is meeting my wife on campus, I have no idea where I would be today.”

In turn, Greg will be staying connected with FIU by serving as a guest lecturer for the physical therapy students and College of Nursing and Health Sciences alumni this coming fall.

More details are yet to come, but Greg hopes to share how he built his two physical therapy practices, as well as how he leverages technology to assist with patient care and the marketing of his practices.

If there was advice Greg would want to share with current students and young alumni it would be to enjoy your college years, don’t let anyone put limitations on your dreams and realize that money is not the key to success — creativity is.
