SJMC Alumni Spotlight – Fall Semester

“The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at FIU played an enormous role in my current career path as a Reporter and Producer at Univision 23. Through dedicated teachers, impressive internship opportunities, and my passion for Journalism, I was able to make my dream a reality. THANK YOU!”

Ashley Marie Lapadula was born in Miami, FL and, from a young age, always had a strong love for news. After graduating from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication in 2013, she joined Univision 23 News as a Producer and Reporter in September of 2013.

She currently produces a show called “Ahora en Nuestra Comunidad” which airs every Saturday at 11 a.m. on Channel 23 and again on Channel 69, UniMas, on Sundays at 11 a.m. She covers many aspects of community news including education, current events, immigration, politics and community initiatives.

Prior to accepting her job with Univision 23, Lapadula was an intern with CBS4 News and NBC Universal, Telemundo. Lapadula covered a range of stories including local news, health, education and entertainment. At the age of 21, she pitched her first national story as an intern at Telemundo. During her free time, Lapadula enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as boating, shopping and traveling. She will be pursuing a Masters degree at FIU in the Spanish Language Masters program in 2014/2015.
