FIU Football

Football had its first-ever Conference USA league game at Southern Miss on Oct. 5. Following the game with the Golden Eagles, the Panthers will play three straight home games against UAB (Oct. 12), Louisiana Tech (Oct. 26) and East Carolina (Nov. 2). The Oct. 12 game against the Blazers will serve as the 2013 Homecoming contest and will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Along the football lines, starting safety Justin Halley was featured by FIU News, not only for his impressive play on the field, but his modeling career off the gridiron. For several years, the redshirt junior from Boca Raton hasbeen one of the modeling profession’s rising stars. His travels havetaken him to Milan, Italy and New York City for their ballyhooed fashion weeks. He’s appeared on the cover for Vogue, and has walked the runway for such iconic designers Dolce Gabbana, Givenchy and Dsquared2.

The Nov. 2 football game against East Carolina will serve as this season’s Military Appreciation Day. Active and veteran members of all military branches will be admitted to the game complimentary of FIU Athletics.

FIU Basketball

The FIU college basketball season is upon us. Exhibition games for the women’s team, led by senior All-American sensation Jerica Coley, will tip-off on Lime Court at U.S. Century Bank Arenaon Oct. 27 against Nova Southeastern.

Themen’s team, under new Head Coach Anthony Evans, will start the seasonon the road at the Kennesaw State Tournament, Nov. 8-12. The men’s first home game will be against Florida College on Nov. 14. Make sure you have your season tickets as the National Champion Louisville Cardinals will be making their way to Miami for a battle with the Panthers on Dec. 21. FIU Golf

The 2012-13 women’s golf conference champions are back on the course and ready to challenge for the C-USA title. Sophomore star Meghan MacLaren leads a young pack of Panthers as they face one of the toughest fall and spring schedules in program history.

For alumni on Florida’s southwest coast, venture to Sarasota, Oct. 20-22, for the 36th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, held on the beautiful Cypress Course at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.
