Annual Torch Awards Gala returns to FIU this year, and you’re invited!

The Torch Awards Gala returns to FIU this year! The annual celebration pays tribute to Panthers who are making an impact in their professions, the community and at the university. Last hosted on campus more than five years ago, the event will take place at FIU’s Ocean Bank Convocation Center for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018.

Proceeds from the gala support construction of the future FIU Alumni Center, a home base at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus for FIU’s 215,000-plus alumni. The facility will feature a ballroom to seat 400 guests, Alumni Career Services offices, outdoor space and more, creating a new campus stomping ground for Panthers past and present.

Proceeds also benefit the First Generation Scholarship Program, which supports undergraduate students at FIU who are the first in their families to attain a college degree. Donations to first generation scholarships are matched two-for-one by the state of Florida, tripling the impact the fund can have on students who are following their dreams at FIU.

2017 Alumnus of the Year Chad Moss ’94, whose construction management firm Moss & Associates has hired more than 50 FIU graduates and whose foundation donated $10 million to the College of Engineering & Computing last year, offered this challenge at last year’s Torch Awards Gala:

“Give back… Give to the university that educated you, to the university that educates the talent that drives your success, and the university that fuels the economy and the community we all call home.”
