Alumni Profile: Vania Toledo ’12, MS ’14

Vania Toledo ’12, MS ’14 is a mother of 2 children ages 11 and 7 living in the Miami area. She has a Masters of Science in Global Strategic Communications from FIU and has been working in the marketing industry for over 15 years. Currently, she is the Director of Marketing & PR in the U.S. for Botran Rum from Guatemala.  

How would you describe your years as an FIU student?
Non-traditional and BUSY! I worked full-time and attended school full-time, as well.  

What is your favorite memory of being an FIU student?  
Making the Dean’s list.. I’m a self-confessed nerd! 

What activities or experiences would you say helped you the most to get you where you are today?  
Group projects were pivotal. They helped me immensely with the day-to-day in the marketing field. 

What course(s) would you say helped you the most with your career?
Integrated Marketing Communications and Digital Media. Cornerstones in my current role. 

Did any professor make a special impact on your career path?
Yes! Professor Adams. He was unbelievably in tune with the PR world and so witty. His passing shocked me and I will never forget him.

Vania Giordano-1If you could go back, would you change anything about your years at FIU?
Not a thing! I’m so happy I proudly chose FIU for my undergraduate and graduate studies! 

Can you explain how you stay engaged with FIU?  
I recently graduated with my Masters in Global Strategic Communications from FIU. Also, I aim to sponsor FIU events with the brand I work for. 

Why is it important for you to stay engaged/connected with FIU?
It’s a huge part of my life and education is an integral part of our South Florida community. 

What advice would you give to current students and/or young alumni?  
Stay the course. There’s more than just classes on campus.  Be active, join groups and attend networking events. These will help you when you are ready to start your career.
