Kev Marcus ’03 is Breaking Music Stereotypes

Kevin “Kev Marcus” Sylvester ’03 and Wilner B. “Simply Sick” Baptiste, members of Black Violin, have been making musical waves in the media for some time now. They have stood before the renowned Apollo Theatre, joining musical legends such as Billie Holiday, James Brown and Lauryn Hill.  Both participated at TEDxFIU in 2013 to talk on music that thinks outside the box, and performed at the 2013 Inaugural Ball, playing to a crowd of 35,000.

From early childhood to college, both members acknowledge their success to the backing of family, great music teachers and staff who invigorated them to shine along the way. Kev, on violin, and Simply Sick, on viola, have been revolutionizing music playing hip-hop tunes with their classical instruments.

Black Violin wants to break classical music stereotypes. On December 16th, both Kev and Wil were featured on a PBS NEWSHOUR.

This month, Black Violin will set off again on a 30-city U.S. tour. Visit their website at www.blackviolin.net for album previous and their upcoming shows.
