Jesus Vazquez to be recognized by Florida International University with Distinguished Alumni Award

Jesus Vazquez 200x238The Florida International University Alumni Association will be honoring Jesus Vazquez ’85 with a Distinguished Alumni award during FIU’s fourteenth annual Torch Awards Charity Gala on Saturday, March 28, 2015. This award recognizes alumni who have brought honor and distinction to the university through their notable record of service and achievement in a particular discipline, organization or cause.

Jesus Vazquez is the Chief Operating Officer of Facchina, a Miami-based, full-service construction company with a staff of 115 full-time professionals. For more than 30 years, Vazquez has served in a management capacity in the construction industry, overseeing many high-profile projects including the American Airlines Arena, New World Symphony, Grove at Grand Bay and most recently, FIU’s Parking Garage 6. Prior to joining Facchina, Vazquez worked for another world-renowned builder, supervising construction of the Adrienne Arsht Center and the South Terminal expansion at Miami International Airport. He graduated from FIU with his bachelor’s degree in construction management in 1985. Vazquez is an active member of the local community and serves on the board of FIU’s Department of Construction Management Industry Advisory Council and the Miami-Dade County Planning Advisory Board. He is currently the 2015 chairman of the board for the Associated Builders and Contractors, Florida East Coast Chapter.

This year, the FIU Alumni Association will be hosting the prestigious gala at the luxurious Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel, located on 4441 Collins Avenue in Miami, Fla.
