FIU Football in the National Spotlight

Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced an agreement with Sinclair Broadcast Group, among the nation’s largest television broadcasting companies, to produce and distribute 100 events each of the next two years, including six FIU football games during the 2014 campaign.

Conference USA will be part of the newly launched American Sports Network (ASN), a collegiate sports initiative that will air on a number of Sinclair’s broadcast television stations. Below are the six additional FIU games to be broadcast on ASN.

Saturday, Aug. 30; Bethune-Cookman at FIU (ASN); 7:00 p.m. ET

Saturday, Sept. 27; FIU at UAB (ASN); 3:30 p.m. ET

Saturday, Nov. 1; Rice at FIU (ASN); 12:00 p.m. ET

Saturday, Nov. 8; FIU at Old Dominion (ASN); 3:30 p.m. ET

Saturday, Nov. 15; Middle Tennessee at FIU (ASN); 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 22; FIU at North Texas (ASN); 3:30 p.m.

With the addition of the ASN television schedule, the Panthers will have three of its first four home games televised, as FIU hosts Bethune-Cookman (Aug. 30 on ASN) to open the season and welcomes ACC foes Pittsburgh (Sept. 13 on FSN) and Louisville (Sept. 20 on either FS1 or FSN) in back-to-back weekends.

Additionally, the annual Shula Bowl rivalry against Florida Atlantic will start at 7 p.m. on FSN from the FIU Football Stadium. A week later, the Panthers will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to face UTSA at 7 p.m. on Fox College Sports.

In all, 10 of the Panther’s 12 games during the 2014 season will be televised, including all four road contests.
