The 2014 Legislative Session is now entering its fourth week, and the House and Senate are vigorously working to pass legislation and craft their respective budgets.  In the coming weeks, each Chamber will approve a budget and later, the two will enter the Conference process to negotiate and agree on one budget that can be signed into law by the Governor.  As a state university, this is important to FIU because nearly $268 million of our funding comes from the state.  We are closely monitoring the budget process and working with our local Legislators to ensure that FIU receives its fair share of state dollars.

Earlier this month in Tallahassee, FIU President Rosenberg was joined by students, faculty, alumni and Members of our Board of Trustees for FIU Day in the Capitol.  This annual tradition gives us an opportunity to tell the FIU story, thank Legislators, and encourage them to continue their support of our university.  You too can join our advocacy efforts and have a say in the future of your FIU.  As the Legislature continues its work, it is important that we remain vocal about our priorities and the tools we need to continue serving our community and stay Worlds Ahead.  If you are interested in learning more about our legislative efforts and getting involved, please continue reading this important message and complete the quick survey below.  We will continue to keep you informed about opportunities for engagement.

FIU is asking the Legislature to support the following priorities for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.  Please review these priorities and take a moment to express your support for FIU in your own words to your State Senator and State Representative who represents you in Tallahassee.

In an effort to engage alumni in our advocacy efforts at the local, state and federal levels, we are asking that you take a moment to complete this brief survey so we can evaluate how you best complement our strategy.
