For more than 25 years, Florida International University’s Office of Multicultural Programs and Services has hosted the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration, honoring one of the world’s greatest leaders. Planning for this celebration commences up to ten months in advance. The premier event, the MLK Breakfast, has evolved from a university event into a world-class community event, attracting many local dignitaries and schools, all looking forward to attending this annual celebration of Dr. King’s life and legacy. It has grown from a single event to a month-long series, which includes the Youth Forum & Peace Walk, a day of service, a museum exhibit, a dinner, and representation at the MLK Day Parade held in Liberty City, Miami. This commemoration is accomplished by strong collaboration with many departments and colleges at the university.
