Smilka is responsible for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of FIU donors. She is dedicated to maximizing annual gifts and developing future major gift donors through the use of personal solicitations, stewardship, and relationship building with individual donors and volunteer networks.
Smilka grew up in the non-for-profit world and has over 18 years of experience in leadership roles throughout various industries. While working with ShareKindness, she oversaw all development activities including fundraising, strategic planning and execution of campaign and major gifts. She developed and implemented creative fundraising strategies to provide healthcare, education and nutrition to over 1,000 children in extreme poverty in Mexico. She also collaborated with Marc Anthony’s Maestro Cares Foundation to successfully fundraise for impoverished children in Latin America and secure funds to build an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
She has always been an advocate of her community. She volunteers regularly with organizations such as Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center, Barry University, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, St. Hugh and the Florida Women of Achievement Advisory Board.
