We are currently searching for a Senior Manager of Strategy and Planning for a publicly held Property Holdings company.

This Senior Manager is responsible for financial modeling covering a diverse range of areas including multiple scenario building and modeling of complex business issues and legal arrangements.

Title: Vice President of Taxation

Location: Palm Beach County

Reporting Relationships: This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer

The Position: The VP of Tax will be responsible for the overall strategic tax direction for the Company and the management of the tax compliance administration for Consolidated entities. The VP of Tax will also be a tax resource / interface with management of, and outside legal and tax advisors. In addition, the VP of Tax will be a tax resource / interface with internal Acquisitions and Operations, supporting those groups and outside legal and tax advisors with tax matters regarding acquisitions / divestitures and ongoing operational situations. The scope of responsibility will encompass management of annual tax compliance responsibilities, long and short term tax planning, strategic tax directive, tax budgeting, and the development and maintenance of tax-related relationships throughout the Company. The position will also be charged with responsibility for developing specific recommendations for tax policy and procedures for Company.

The VP of Tax will also consult on special projects as they arise, so strong technical skills are vital to this role. Tax consulting includes performing tax research, directing and working with outside tax and legal counsel on tax matters, and planning, managing and ultimately implementing special projects. He/she will also serve as a key member of management team involved in various aspects of strategic tax planning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Give tax advice and counsel to the management team; serve as an integral and proactive part of the management team.
  • Develop and/or review and recommend tax objectives, strategies and policies consistent with company's short and long-range operating and business goals.
  • Direct company's tax activities with regard to annual tax compliance responsibilities for company including supervision and management of the outside preparation and technical review of a multitude of income tax returns.
  • Develop the necessary tax reporting policies and systems required to ensure adequate and timely tax compliance management.
  • Serve as the primary interface with company's financial and accounting functions to ensure that accurate and timely data is provided to outside tax advisors for use in preparation of the annual income tax filings of company.
  • Be responsible for the integrity of the tax compliance process and the accuracy of tax returns filed for company.
  • Be an available resource and part of the decision making process relating to the tax implications of potential acquisitions, divestitures, realizations, and other strategic events. Assist with tax due diligence and risk assessment in acquisitions as circumstances might warrant.

The Candidate: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage the annual tax compliance responsibilities of an interrelated, multi-entity, complex tiered structure. He/she will also have a demonstrated ability to analyze and advise on complicated technical tax matters. This individual will have deep experience in federal income taxes and significant experience with pass-through entities.

Experience as a senior level tax professional with a large public accounting firm or corporate tax department is required and M&A expertise will be a strong plus as will multi-state and international tax experience. We seek an energetic individual with a "hands on" orientation and a "roll up your sleeves" mentality who operates well in a fast paced, challenging environment. This position requires someone with good communication and presentation skills, proven administrative ability and a leadership management style. The ideal candidate will have the ability to effectively manage outside legal and tax advisors as well as communicate effectively with management team.

Candidate qualifications will include:

  • Deep hands on experience in technical federal tax matters and significant experience with tax provisions.
  • Hands on experience with management of federal and state tax return preparation processes.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with multi-state and international tax experience and with M&A tax experience.
  • Someone with a strong professional image and the ability to represent Company at the highest levels of management.
  • Someone with strong leadership skills who can effectively manage tax relationships with Company’s outside legal and tax advisors.
  • Effective tax research skills, including deep familiarity with various electronic research databases, familiarity with the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations, Rulings, Judicial decisions, etc.
  • PC skills including Excel and Word.
  • A quick study who is action oriented.
  • A person who has a creative approach to identifying and solving complicated tax situations, who can dissect a tax situation, brainstorm various potential solutions and communicate a recommended solution articulately - both verbally and in writing.
  • A person with a good balance of strategic thinking and solid execution skills, with a systematic and logical approach to work efforts and decision-making.
  • A person of unquestioned integrity and energy.
  • Someone who can manage multiple projects simultaneously and can perform detailed tasks on projects while at the same time delegating and supervising others (both internal employees and external advisors).

Experience & Education: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 to 15 years of solid, dedicated tax experience in a large public accounting firm and/or large corporate tax department setting. Candidate must have a very strong technical tax background. Multi-state and international tax experience is a plus. M&A tax experience is a plus.

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and should be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). A Masters of Science in Taxation or a JD/LLM is a very strong plus.

Job Description: A large real estate company seeks an energetic, high-achieving, exceptional candidate for an opening as Vice President of Acquisitions. This position entails overseeing the acquisition of commercial properties throughout the nation. This person will lead a team of individuals to perform all aspects of the acquisition process. They will go onsite for due diligence and their team will negotiate deals. Travel will be required up to 25 percent of the time. Average deal cycle is 6 to 10 weeks once a property has been identified and fits our criteria. We need a commercial real estate guru for this position.

Requirements: Experience with real estate markets, property deficiencies, and borrower deficiencies. Bachelor's degree in business administration or finance required and a minimum of 10 years of experience working in real estate. Graduate degree is business or law preferred. This person should have a strong mix of financial analysis, acquisition, due diligence, negotiating and real estate legalities. This person must also have knowledge of national real estate markets. Candidate must also have a strong real estate background and understanding of specific property-type and property-level issues.
