Golden Panthers football to face University of Florida powerhouse in ‘09

November 21, 2009, will be the day the FIU Golden Panthers football team comes face to face with the University of Florida Gators. Negotiations recently took place and the game is set for Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, commonly referred to as The Swamp, in Gainesville, FL.

"Playing Florida brings tremendous notoriety," said Rick Mello, FIU athletic director.  “It's guaranteed television and a game our fans can drive to.”

The highly anticipated match-up is the kind of game the Panthers are hoping for as they make the transition into Division I-A. "Something like this does volumes for the development of our program," said Mello.
