The Florida International University Alumni Association has presented annual awards to honor alumni and faculty since 2000. Prior to the Torch Award Gala alumni awards were presented at an annual reception. These awards , presented in the spring semester, are the highest accolade conferred by the Alumni Association.

The selection committee wishes to ensure that it has the chance to review the broadest possible range of qualified nominees. Thus, nominations are encouraged from all segments, according to the following guidelines and in these categories:

THE CHARLES E. PERRY YOUNG ALUMNI VISIONARY AWARD
The selection is made from candidates who have distinguished themselves by obtaining a high level of professional accomplishment and who possess high standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of Florida International University. Recognition will be given to an alumnus/a making significant contributions to their field of endeavor early on in their career. The candidate will have developed imaginative methods and programs, displayed leadership and development of leadership in others, and will have established harmonious professional relationships. Primary evaluation of accomplishments should highlight contributions of recent years (10 years or less of service in his or her field and be 39 years old or younger at time of nomination). THE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD
The selection is made from candidates who have distinguished themselves by obtaining a high level of accomplishment and who possess high standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of Florida International University. Recognition will be given to an alumnus/a for exemplary service and civic involvement in their community as a leader. The candidate will have clearly demonstrated a record of outstanding service in his or her community and/or to humanity, and who, by receiving this award, brings honor to the University by having performed significant voluntary service beyond the call of business or professional duty. THE OUTSTANDING FACULTY AWARD
The purpose is to honor an outstanding member of the Faculty whose achievements have brought distinction to the faculty member and our University. Selection is made from candidates who have distinguished themselves by obtaining a high level of accomplishment and who possess high standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of Florida International University. It is awarded on the basis of the total accomplishments of the faculty member, with special emphasis on the faculty member’s relationships with students. THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD
Granted by the Florida International University Alumni Association on behalf of the Schools or Colleges to a Florida International University graduate. Deans of each School/College choose the recipient based on candidates who have distinguished themselves by obtaining a high level of accomplishment and who possess high standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of Florida International University.
